The Cotswolds are a timeless backdrop of the English countryside. The environment seems to absorb you giving the feeling that you left the pressures of life behind you.

Every year bluebells ring in the spring by carpeting the first floors in a layer of violet blue flowers. It is truly a phenomenon not to be missed.

Walking Ferry Road you can truly experience the Norfolk Broads. This dead-end lane takes you through the Bure Marshes towards the riverside where in former times you could take a ferry to the Ferri Inn on the opposite side. But don’t forget your wellies as this road is floods plenty of times.

Hiking on Yr Wyddfa (mount Snowdown) I struggled to find a view that offered depth and contrast. Thankfully on the way down via the Rhys Ddu path this ridge with a small cluster of trees was perfectly offset against the hazy background.

On May 10 1940 on this spot a German armoured train first crossed the defence canal breaking the ‘Peel resistance line’. Thankfully nature hides men's horrors, presenting us with this tranquil image.

Where borders are meaningless as the Pyrenees flow seamlessly between France and Spain. Just a few hundred yards away is Port de Boucharo where a simple marker on a mountain track defines the border between the countries.

The early morning mist forms a fantastic natural filter for the upcoming sunlight. Rising early has clearly given its reward.

It is often very rewarding when shadows, sunlight and diffused backgrounds play their tricks. Taken during a welcome break in the hike up to Yr Wyddfa.
